World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season. The 27-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles championship. A Season of Dominance Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final. The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year. In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Achievements Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings. She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists. On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level". Additional WTA Award Winners Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year. Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18. Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together. Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches. Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
