Russian authorities is conducting a strategic manipulation initiative of warnings to deter the US from supplying long-range missiles to Ukrainian forces, as reported by defense experts. A high-ranking Russian lawmaker declared: “We know these projectiles very well, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we encountered them in Syria, so there is nothing new. The providers and the deploying forces will encounter difficulties … We will develop strategies to target those who cause us trouble.”

Ukraine's Military Push Situation

Ukraine's military were inflicting heavy losses in a counteroffensive in eastern Ukraine, the central battlefield, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday. The Ukrainian president's account, based on a communication with his chief of defense, contrasted with Vladimir Putin's speech before senior Russian officers a day earlier in which he asserted Moscow's forces possessed the military advantage in all frontline sectors.

Regional Situations

The regional governor in the Kherson area of Kherson said military strikes on Wednesday resulted in three fatalities in and around the urban center of the oblast center. The governor of the Sumy oblast, on the northern border with neighboring Russia, said three people died in Russian drone attacks in various areas. Kyiv's air command said it neutralized or disrupted most of the attack and decoy UAVs during the night.

Military action seriously damaged a Ukrainian energy facility, authorities said on midweek. Two employees were injured in the attack, based on information from power utility representatives. Sources gave no further information, including the plant's location, but national sources said attacks targeted critical utilities in the Chernihiv region, southern Ukraine and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

In the north-eastern Sumy town of northeastern Ukraine, hit hard by the offensive operations against the power supply, officials have established temporary shelters where civilians are able to warm up, access hot drinks, maintain communication capability and receive psychological support, according to local official.

Kyiv's representative to Nato on Wednesday urged NATO members to step up purchases of US weapons for Ukraine. “It's not that we favor American weapons over European or other international equipment – the issue is that we are asking the US for weapons which EU members don't possess,” said the diplomatic representative.

EU Security Challenges

European Commission President declared on Wednesday that Europe must strengthen its defenses to deter complex threat operations after aerial violations, computer network operations and damage to undersea cables. “These aren't random harassment. It is a coherent and escalating campaign,” the representative said in a presentation to the European parliament. “Two incidents are random chance, but multiple, repeated, numerous – that represents a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and Europe must respond.”

Humanitarian Status

The Swiss authorities has continued its refugee protection offered to people fleeing Ukraine to at least March 2027. Temporary protection, which permits refugees to travel abroad as well as seek employment there, is typically restricted to twelve months but can be continued. “The ruling shows the persistent unstable environment and continuing offensive operations across significant Ukrainian territory,” said a Swiss government statement. “Regardless of worldwide negotiation attempts, a permanent peace that would permit protected homecoming is not projected in the coming years.”
